North Central Jurisdiction United Methodist Men conference call minutes of June 13, 2010:

Those on the call were President Lee Donley, Past President & Nominations Chair Dan Henry,
East Area V-p Charlie Gooden, Secretary Jim Smith, Treasurer Steve Liehr, NCJ Prayer
Advocate Ken Hudgins, Hunger Relief Advocate David McCleary, Men's Ministry Specialist
John Dockery, Detroit President Jim Walker, and Indiana President Dave Martin.

Ken Hudgins opened the conference call at 6:35/7:35 with a devotion based on Philippians 3: 12-14.
Paul had a singular objective to promote Jesus Christ; to forget the past and to press toward the goal
of expanding the kingdom of Jesus Christ. Prayers were lifted up for Charlie's brother Larry's surgery,
Delbert Clark's surgery, Lee's son, David and Amy Jo Belt; and Mary Crutche, Martha Davis, and Lois.

The minutes were approved as presented.

The treasurer's report was accepted as presented; balance of $2104.60.

MMS John Dockery noted the exceptional UMMen's breakfast at the Indiana Annual Conference.

HRA David McCleary noted that first quarter contributions to 'Meals for Millions' had two of the
most economically depressed Conferences in the top ten. Detroit is one of the two.
September will be National Hunger Action Month. SOSA has suggested the following activities
for September: fast and pray for the hungry, have a hunger focused worship service, volunteer
with a hunger relief agency, designate an offering for SOSA, and hunger education in the church.
SOSA may be contacted for more information. NCJ churches are being asked to have targeted
services and a special offering. David is sending an outline of suggested activities to NCJUMM
Board members to be distributed.

Note was made that to receive some e-mails, the sender's e-mail address needs to be in the
receiver's address book. (Secretary's note: try e-mailing individually for messages kicked back)

Individuals will need to self-register for September 24-25 at the Clock Tower Resort.

IN President Dave Martin reported on the excellent presentation about the importance of Men's
Ministry by Gil Hanke at the UMMen's breakfast at Annual Conference. The UMMen booth
at Annual Conference sparked interest in over 20 contacts; and one District President was
found, leaving one District Presidency to fill. District Superintendents also visited the booth.
The IN 'Haiti Tool Project' is wrapping up with over $1000 collected for shipping.
Note was made of the need for masonry bits in Haiti. Note was made of inexpensive tools
sold through "Harbor Freight.'

Detroit President Jim Walker noted the placement of CD's with Detroit's UMMen four goals
in all the Conference churches. Goals are that men memorize one Bible verse a month,
raise funds for 3000 "Strength for Service" devotionals, have every man in the Conference
contribute $1 to 'Meals for Millions,' and and raise $100,000 for the Endowment Fund so
as to be self-funded and not Conference funded. Jim noted that $1000 had been sent from
the Detroit UMMen to Nashville to help with the roof. Jim suggested that NCJUMM Board
members order from 'Focus on the Family' a CD featuring Frank Pastori, a former atheist.
Jim noted he is visiting local churches to promote UMMen.

A question was raised about a possibility of providing "Strength for Service" devotionals to
oil-spill cleanup personnel. Ken Hudgins will check with Joe Kelley.

Steve Liehr reported a good response for the "Haiti Tool Project' at the N IL Annual Conference.

Gil Hanke is still working on the 'Values Added Chartering Ministry' presentation. There are still
questions being raised and comments being shared. Ken Hudgins noted he had created his own
'Power Point' presentation using the best material from various sources.

A question was raised about the listings of UMMen fellowships.

It was asked that "Other Ministries" on the NCJUMM website be linked for easy accessibility.

Gil Hanke has noted that insurance will not cover the entire $34,000 roof bill for GCUMM HQ.

Lee noted he is working on fund raising for NCJUMM ministry.

Lee shared he had received the Layperson's Harry Denman Award for Evangelism from
the Detroit Conference at Annual Conference.

Dan Henry reminded everyone they are invited to to the Laity Celebration Service honoring
him on June 27, 10:00 a.m. at Friendship UMC, Bolingbrook, IL. He hopes many will be able
to come.

Ken Hudgins closed with prayer.

Jim Smith, Secretary
